American Wheat Beer Litehaus Wheat (Boulevard Wheat Clone)

I brewed this about a month ago per the OP, but swapped warrior instead of magnum and mosiac instead of simcoe based on what I had around. We taped and kicked the keg rapidly last night at a party. Once again BierMuncher delivers! The beer crisp, light, and totally quaffable. Even the people...

    Temp control - critical period?

You might want to consider buying or building an inexpensive temp controller and using it to control reptile heating pads (like FermWrap). I have a room that is typically ~60 and this approach works great. You will still want to use your ferm chamber to keep aggressive yeast strains from...

Help finding or making an Ss brewtech 7 gallon Chronical neoprene jacket

Wrap a blanket or something around it. Not as pretty, but better than nothing. Even without the insulation it is a great rig. I'm surprised that they sell you one. I bought the coils and jacket for mine a while back. I think both were available separately back then

American Pale Ale Russian River Row 2 Hill 56 Clone

Thanks for this recipe. I have brewed this multiple times and this is a perfect base for Simcoe and related hops! In fact this has become a regular on tap and it is always well received- even by those people 'who dont like hops.' It always looks beautiful in the glass with a nice head and...

Unboxing the Nano from CO Brewing

I was an ‘early adopter’ of the CBS BIAB system and figured that I should share my experiences. We put together my rig before Tim was selling BIAB systems and my whole system is pretty much custom. My system is similar to what he is now selling as the nano bewer dual system in that I have 2 20G...

    2015 hop crop

I have to agree on the 2015 YVH Citra. I don't get any of the tropical flavors or smells out of it. Bummer

Historical Beer: Kentucky Common "Kiss Yer Cousin" Rye Kentucky Common Ale

I have had the same though! I say give it a go and let us know

    Bells Winter White ale

I am not sure that I can say much with any confidence because the end result was not at all what I intended. On my next attempt I will go with a similar grain bill and blend a hefe yeast with an American ale yeast and run it on the cooler side. My yeast profile was way off target...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I have dry hopped it a few times with cascade. IMO it is best just to keep to the straight recipe. The beer is fantastic and well balanced as is. I though the dry hoped versions lost something...

Reviving Expired Saison Yeast- Worth while?

I would make a smaller starter and anticipate that it will take a while to get going. After the initial starter is done, crash it, decant, and do a proper sized starter. I have used yeasts that >1 yr past their expiration date without problem (except for the slow initial starter). Cheers

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Did you fill the first or the second first? I recently filled two carboys and was suprised by the difference in the amount of trub between the two carboys. The first carboy had more trub which surprised me as I did a pretty long whirlpool and I figured that the 2nd one would be dirtier.

    Bells Winter White ale

Here is a quick update. When I tested the FG it was 1.020! I subsequently realized that my thermometer was not calibrated, and I must have mashed around 158... Lesson learned- I will always double check the thermometer- especially after it has been sitting outside in the wicked cold! I got a...

    Bells Winter White ale

Stay posted. I brewed a batch similar to the one above, but dropped the Belma and went with Willamette at 60 and 10 min. The Forbidden Fruit ripped though it in less than 48h and I am letting it sit around for another week before packaging. I will update once I give it a taste.

    Saison With Weak Flavor?

I would bottle/keg it up aiming for a high level of carbonation and give it some time. I bet it turns out really good and the harshness will mellow out.

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

I took another crack at making this yesterday. By mistake, my wort had cooled to 154 before I added the 2nd whirlpool addition. I think my chiller works much faster now that ground temps have dropped... Do you think that will have a major effect on the outcome? It still smelled incredible and...

    Issues Whirlpooling and Chilling Simultaneously

Can you adjust the angle on the whirlpool port? Perhaps angling the inlet up or down 10-15 deg would mix the hot/cold wort better.

    Rogue pacman yeast

Do you think that it mutes hops compared to other American ale yeasts?
  19. M

    Rogue pacman yeast

I have used it for blonde ales, APA, IPA, and porters. It likes agency pitch and relatively cool temps- like low 60s. Decent attenuation and flocs out better that the other American ale yeasts that I have used. It is clean but I find that it seems to mute out hop flavors and smooth / dull flavors.
