Mash paddle: Use for mash-in and boil kettle?

Yeah, I have a totally separate process for chilling, where I would not be using my paddle or spoon. So, the paddle would only be for mash in and boil. As for the whisk - I like the sound of it, but not the length. 24 inches is how long my spoon is... and I need to get further away from the heat.

Mash paddle: Use for mash-in and boil kettle?

Thanks - I couldn't think of anything too wrong with using it with both, but you never know with this crazy hobby! As for using FermCap, I used that a lot while I was still extract brewing, but once I moved to all-grain, I got a 16g kettle and haven't had a boilover... until Tuesday evening...

Mash paddle: Use for mash-in and boil kettle?

Got a cool, long wooden paddle I had intended on using for mash-in, but after last nights "Battle of the Boilover" with my shorter stainless spoon, I got to wondering if anyone uses their paddle as a stirrer in the boil kettle. I figure a quick rinse ought to do it. Thoughts?

NEW PRODUCT from Nor Cal Brewing - Speidel blow off AND thermowell

This could be my first foray into thermowells. Do you know if it would it accommodate the temperature probe of an Inkbird ITC 308? (Right now I bungee cord it to the side of my Speidel with a hunk of foam rubber...meh, it works.)

Quick Aeration Wand project while you're waiting on your mash

I recently got a new aeration wand and was looking to get the most out of it. The hardest part would be to boil it to sterilize, then reassemble it (including the nylon washer) and not touch it with your hands, lest the oils clog the stone. So, I thought there had to be a better way than to...

Oxyclean "Perfume" in Speidel - now what?

Thanks all for the suggestions/advice ! Yeah, I'm done with the Oxyclean I have on hand and have moved to 100% PBW from now on! I did a 2-day PBW soak, and am now doing a 2 day vinegar/water soak. I may do another round of PBW, too. At this point, it's cheaper than 4-5 batches of perfumed beer!

Oxyclean "Perfume" in Speidel - now what?

I've got the 30L / 7.9 G fermenters, that I thought I was cleaning with unscented Oxyclean... apparently not. Now, by beers are tasting like they should, but I get a candy-like bouquet from them. Soaking now in good ol' hot PBW. Will that work or do I need to do more afterwards?

People's Choice Comp - What to brew?

Great feedback! Yeah this event has several 'flights' of categories... like a flight could be "Lager, Hybrids, English Pale Ale, American Ales" And yeah, with 2 or 3 "safe" beers a creative one might give a memorable experience ! Any other things to consider?

People's Choice Comp - What to brew?

Yeah, this is open to the general public, so some beer noobs, beer nerds and beer ninjas could all be there... The Kolsch is an interesting idea, but I'm already doing my Cream Ale, which is a lighter, yellow fizzy...

People's Choice Comp - What to brew?

Prepping for an early spring "people's choice" competition, and I would like to take 3 or 4 brews. I've decided on my Irish Red, and my pretty fantastic Cream Ale (imho), BUT, I need 2 more... A couple of my leading contenders are a dunkel, or a dubbel, a pale ale or to hang on to my really...

Accidental GREEN Beer !!! Anyone else have this happen?

Got home tonight - took a light to the fermentor and we are no longer green, but rather a nice, pleasant golden color. Chalk another one up to RDWHAHB ! Vbb
