    Blichmann Fermentator

I took the pick up tube off which is pretty simple. I did not take off the bulkhead fitting at the bottom. First use, I'm sure it'll be fine, but I'll make sure take it off after I use it. Better safe than sorry I guess. I guess there's a chance that bugs might be able to survive between the...

    Blichmann Fermentator

I'm getting ready to use my Blichmann Ferementator for the for the first time. I've cleaned the tank and lib with PBW and I'm soaking all the fittings. I understand I have to sanitize all of the fittings, tank and lid prior to use. I'm wonder if I need to remove the weldless bulkhead fitting...

    March 815 SS Pumps

I've got two March 815 SS pumps for sale. They've got about a year's worth of use on them. The original plugs have been replaced. I needed Nema locking plugs for my brew panel. I have since replaced those and switched them back to the standard 3 prong plugs. I'm asking $100 a piece

Anyone ever freeze a beer before?

I had some flooding in my basement today, quite a bit actually. After the clean up I went to check the beer. Evidently my temperature controller shorted out in the water and my freezer chest was doing was freezer chests are supposed to do. The inside temp was about 1 degree Fahrenheit. The...

8 beers short of two cases.

You'll lose a couple of points of gravity on your beer. Two points probably isn't that big of a deal. As someone has already mentioned you can compensate for that by adding a little more extract to your boil if you want to. I'm guessing it would amount to maybe an additional 4 ounces of dry...

8 beers short of two cases.

I was just getting ready to circle back on my previous reply. I mentioned that I was generally a few short of 48 on my 5 gallon batches. It's been a while since I did a 5 gallon kit but I sort of remember being about 4 short generally. You said you were 8 short. That seemed like a lot, but...

8 beers short of two cases.

This has been my experience as well. I never get a full two cases out of a 5 gallon extract kit. I'm always a few beers short. I would also add that you probably shouldn't simply add an extra half gallon of water to the bucket to bump up the volume to 5.5 gallons (I don't think that's what...

    Whalezbrah

Whatever it was I've now been inspired to try something along these lines. I think the idea of starting with an APA (I have a good one I've brewed a number of times) and dropping the IBU's and the hop characteristics and accentuating the oak characteristics is probably the right path.

    Whalezbrah

I tried the limited release Surly Whalezbrah handed out at Homebrewcon last night. Awesome beer!! I love it when you taste a beer and get something a lot different than most of anything you've had before. I spent a good time trying to place some of the flavors I was getting out of it and just...

    Patersbier turned brown

Two kegs in in fridge. One was empty and I didn't disconnect either one. Here's a picture. Sorry it's rotated. I'm posting from my phone. This thing was pale golden. The grain bill was 100% pils if that gives you any idea. I think I'm making beer brats tonight

    Patersbier turned brown

I was just at the LHBS and one of the guys there said if you stir up the sediment in a keg after it's been carbonated it won't settle. Somehow the gas keeps the sediment suspended. I don't know.

    Patersbier turned brown

I had a nice patersbier kegged. I had gone through a little more than half the keg, maybe a month in the keg. I moved the keggerator from one side of the basement to the other and subsequently pulled a beer, and my nice golden patersbier had turned a stinky pale brown. Initially I thought I...

Dip Tube / Ball Valve Alignment

Anyone have any suggestions on how get the dip tube and ball valve in a kettle aligned correctly? What I mean by this is that I have the threaded npt nipple in the hole of the kettle wall with nuts, washers and gaskets locking it in place. I attach my ball valve so that the handle is aligned...
