    Snowflakes in Beer

Depends on what temperature the beer was at and how long they've been in the beer - anything above 160 degrees wouldn't likely hurt it from snowflakes. As you know, bacteria and yeast are constantly floating around so it's possible. You will likely have to simply wait and see how the beer turns...

What are your contrarian/"unpopular" beer opinions?

"No, I don't make a Miller Lite clone". "No, I don't make a Summer Shandy clone." It's in line with home brewers, but the look you get from some people around here when you don't have these...wow. Also, I pretty much refuse to believe that you cannot achieve an award-winning beer from BIAB...

A Discussion on Coffee in Brewing Beer

Hey Everyone, I'd like to get a topic going of how to get coffee in beer. The reason why, is Stone has a Coffee Milk Stout that they claim the brewer simply adds whole beans to the mash and *poof*, you have a fine coffee flavor. Maybe they do a secondary with coffee as well...don't know. I've...

Holding Mash Temp with Digital Thermometer

Hey everyone, I have a digital thermometer/controller that can control a heating source and a cooling source. It has a waterproof sensor and I thought I could use it for monitoring the mash (goes up to 200 degress Fahrenheit). I do BIAB mashing on top of a darkstar burner (gas) normally...

Rotten egg smell from fermenter to keg

Hey Everyone, I kegged an ESB that had some sulfur/rotten egg smell coming from it on day 12 of fermentation. Starting OG was 1.041 and I pitched a 1L starter of Wyeast 1469 West Yorkshire Ale yeast. When I purged the keg a few days later, it still had the smell. I contacted a local home...

    Location for temp sensor

Hey Everyone, I am buying a FermWrap to keep the temperature up on my fermenter in the cellar. I have a temp. controller with a waterproof sensor, but I'm wondering if I can just tape the sensor to the side of the fermenter. Would this be okay, or do I need to have it inside the...

    Tap water cause weird fermentation?

Hey everyone, I brewed a batch of brown ale over the weekend and I had a fermentation with no Krausen (at least when I checked each time. I've used this yeast a lot of times and always have had a good krausen. Now here we are four days later and the beer looks to be clearing out a lot. The...

Should I move the fermenter somewhere warmer?

Thanks for the responses. I just get worried about temperature as the yeast is rated down to 64 degrees, which I am below.

Should I move the fermenter somewhere warmer?

Well I just checked again and am wondering if it had a very quick Krause as there's evidence something was there (see picture). It's down to 62-63 degrees is this okay????

Should I move the fermenter somewhere warmer?

Hey all, I brewed a batch of Brown Ale about 48 hours ago. I pitched Wyeast 1469 which usually produces a good krausen. Well, in this batch, I haven't seen anything krausen. It has plenty of bubbles on top and the airlock has been bubbling. The bubbling airlock has slowed since yesterday...

    Scratched Flask, still good?

The scratches are maybe an inch long each. I do not boil with the flask. I boil in a saucepan and then pour into the flask. Thanks!

    Scratched Flask, still good?

I appreciate all the response and advice. The residue I believe is from Oxiclean because none of my other dishes have it. Only glass clean here with Oxi has it - maybe we do and it reacts to the Oxi this way. As long as I don't let it dry, I don't get the residue. My bigger question though is...

    Scratched Flask, still good?

So, I cleaned my flask this morning and noticed two things: 1) There are scratches on the inside of the flask. 2) There is a residue from using OxiClean to clean it (seen this before). I should also mention, it is possible it had scratches from the last batch and I simply didn't pay much...

    Does stainless retain flavor?

So I have a 5 gallon pot and my wife boiled eggs in it. Think it will retain any of that flavor, or could I use it for brewing??

Can you store a yeast starter in the flask for a couple days?

Does the foam stopper matter or do I need to seal it?
