Yeah I saw this on the newsfeed this morning (BBC) and it's ridiculous. No way vegemite yeast has anything to do with making alcohol. They might be using it for flavor or sugar, but not yeast.

Mine did the same but the airlock was only off for about an hour. After a few weeks fermenting, I didn't see our taste any signs of contamination. Don't worry too much (:
Brewed version 2 of this recipe this weekend. The mash smelled delicous and the fermenter smelled almost like cinnamon toast crunch last night. Not sure if that is normal, but it is exciting :D
