English IPA Silver Medal 2016 Bluegrass Cup - English IPA

And here I was coming to HBT for EIPA recipe advise... I'll be brewing (practically) this on Friday! :ban::mug:

    Which rhizomes to buy?

FWIW, I've been growing Brewer's Gold for the last two years, and am not very impressed by them. Flavor and aroma just don't seem quite right, and even when used as bittering there is a certain something that I don't like. I'm thinking of digging them up and replacing with Galena or Nugget. If...

    Help my stupidity please

You should not use a refractometer post-fermentation - you will not get an accurate reading. Use your hydrometer.

    Single Hop Porter

May I respectfully suggest you re-think the premise of the question: and instead just try to make the best porter you can? What I would do is buy 3 oz of fuggles, and use 2 oz for bittering, and the other oz for flavor and aroma? If you're stuck on 1 oz, buy something with high enough AA% to...

Is Your Christmas Brew Done On Time?

I planned on brewing a Wee Heavy, but a drop in efficiency gave me what I'm calling a "90/-". December 23rd will be two weeks in the bottle. Barely ready for Christmas.

Someone just posted a pic of the BYO recipe in another Dark Lord thread, and it says the FG is 1.054.

Robust Porter ibu? And iPa ques

I don't know which is "more accurate", but I always use Tinseth.

Robust Porter ibu? And iPa ques

Personally, I'd move the 45 min Goldings and the 30 min Fuggles both to between 30-20 mins. This is because not much flavour will come through with a 45 min boil. Your 30-20 min hops will give flavour, and 10-0 min hops will give aroma. Here's a chart that I found useful...

Robust Porter ibu? And iPa ques

I agree with lumpher, and would target 40-45 ibu for that gravity. Here is a chart I use to get an idea of what is "balanced" for each style: http://www.madalchemist.com/chart_bitterness_ratio.html :mug:

Robust Porter ibu? And iPa ques

What's the expected OG? I like the amount/timing of the Goldings and Fuggles, but do you have something more British or neutral for the bittering? I would also drop the Cascade, but I prefer more traditional porters. But please post your estimated OG - that will give a little more insight as to...

    Fermenter for 2.5 gallon batches

Check your local ice cream shop. Their ice cream usually comes in 3.5 gallon buckets. Cut a circular hole in the lid for your stopper and airlock.

    1 or 2 Pack of US-05

:off: Maybe consider revisiting the idea of .25 lb peat malt - a little goes a long way...

    ESB Recipe

Looks good - I'd drink it. :mug: Reminds me of the bitter and the ESB from Jamil in BCS...
