    Aeration prior to Primary

Greetings from the 704; Charlotte area. I have always used a stainless whisk and elbow power to stir and froth the primary before I seal and airlock it. Id like your thoughts or wisdom on a couple ideas. First, and correct me if I'm wrong but, the oxygenation occurs on the liquid surface-...

    Boiling with the lid on?

I use refrigerated distilled water to bring the primary up to 5gallons mark. Would the evaporation loss be offset? Maybe I misunderstood higher gravity And thanx everyone for the responses.

    Boiling with the lid on?

Greetings all. I searched for this but didn't find so I made one. I am a stovetop extract brewer. Almost two years now. I'd like to hear other brewers thoughts on how the final product is impacted by boiling with the lid on. I think I've always done it because it wil boil sooner and sustain...

    Different yeast same batch ?

So I've never had anything finnish close to 1 and I'm surprised because this looks like 0.085! I sampled during bottling and it's quite dry yet with a sweet flavor not taste. The spices transferred well during secondary and thrimary. Is that a word? But they settled out and almost no physical...

    Different yeast same batch ?

Greetings all. I started a 5g batch of Joes Ancient Orange last weekend. My third mead. Recipe and technique later. I used a three pack strip of Fleischmans. My first 1g batch of JAO, same yeast, was weak compared to the 5g batch I made using Lalvin champaign yeast. The Lalvin yielded a much...

    CO2 cartridge

I guess because I need to learn more before I go full keg with big tanks and regulators etc. I would be happy to learn about bigger bottles that will work tho.

    CO2 cartridge

Greetings I use a 2.5 gallon keg that has a small injector. It uses 16g (or modified 12g) cartridges. I found a REALLY good deal on CO2 cartridges but I wasn't sure if I could make them fit. So I bought a 5-pack first. The 12g worked without leaking but... OMG my keg smelled like a tire...

    Keg beer didn't carb :(

Thank for the replies. I'd prefer to leave it room temp. I'll try this next batch as well. Cheers -A-

    Keg beer didn't carb :(

Than for the replies. Two things: 1st, this keg has the paintball size gas injector. I haven't stepped up into the regulator big gas bottle phase. 2nd, I erred on the side if caution both times I've kegged by refrigerating. Most people I've talked to said a keg of beer will go bad at room...

    Keg beer didn't carb :(

Coming up on my 1st anniversary as a home brewer. Myself and others are pleased with the results. I used to think I was gonna be good at this... Until now. I bought the 2.5 gallon mini keg system from Midwest. I filled the keg first then bottled the rest in ez-cap flip-top half little bottles...

    No Waste Brewing

Great idea! I have always only brewed from the kits, some of which come with specialty grains. I've always wanted to use the sparged grains like for baking or something. What do you do with your grains? -A-

    1st Stout (when to bottle)

Thanx again everyone. My plan is to thoroughly sanitize a turkey baster and the bung and airlock and take gravity readings every couple days next week. If it stays level I'll move it to bottles with priming sugar. OH! I almost forgot. I got a 2.5 mini keg that I get to use for the first time...

    1st Stout (when to bottle)

Yes :( the airlock activity was nil after day 9 and I can't see inside the bucket to check- which is why i racked to carboy; visibility. Thanx both of you for the turkey baster siphon idea. Temp is approx 70f primary and 65f +/- 8 secondary.

    1st Stout (when to bottle)

Greetings. I boiled a dry Irish stout kit, (DME) w/ grains, from Alternative Beverage. It was in the bucket for two weeks, racked to Carboy two weeks ago. I see the foam in the neck but it's been like that since day four. I don't think there's any risk of blowout. But I look at the top area of...

    Parts help requested

So the regulator is suppose to regulate how much pressure the incoming gas is pushing against the inside of the keg, right? If there is more than one style regulator, are any adjustable to dial in the desired psi? I've read that force carbonation is done at high pressure while dispensing is...
