Thanks for all the info guys. Some of its a little over my head but I like reading and learning so i don't think it's anything that I will be clueless about forever. I don't have a stir plate so a 2 liter starter it is. Guess I'll head to my LHBS to get the supplies.
Received a kit order from AHS today. I was lead to believe on a mother thread that I started that I would need a yeast starter for liquid yeast. I read through the notes on the test tube and this is what they included (this EXACTLY what it says on the label:)
"If OG is over 1.070, if the yeast...
So I get the my next kit from UPS today. I am mentally preparing myself for the fact that I will have to make a yeast starter (which i have never done.) I have read that you should plan to make the starter 12-18 hours before you pitch for maximum reproduction. My only concern is that I'm not...
I ordered a kit from AHS but didn't get the pack to keep the yeast cool. They recommend the pack for shipping during the summer months but I didn't think I would need it. Now I'm a little paranoid. Is there a way to test a small amount of the yeast to make sure it is still alive or am I...
Fermented in glass carboy. One gallon batch. The recipe said to use two tablespoons of table sugar in two cups of boiling water for priming. They've been in bottles for more than three weeks. I didnt take OG or FG readings as I do not have a hydrometer yet. Anything else?
I posted a few days ago about the of carbonation in my latest brew. At that time i had opened one and found it to have only a small amount of carbonation. The next few I tried after that one were all the same. However tonight, I opened one and got the "proper" amount of carbonation. Any thoughts...
Haven't taken OG AND FG readings as the instructions and kit didn't call for it. (I know - I need to invest in a hydrometer.) Once it went in the bottles the ambient temperature was in the high 60s/low 70s during the day. I used two tablespoons of table sugar added to a cup and a half of water.
Just opened the first bottle of my second ever batch and have found that there is only a all amount of carbonation. My first ever batch was exactly the same recipe (a hefeweizen) andi followed the recipe exactly. What gives?
My wife and I are planning our next couple brews I noticed that Northern Brewer includes fizz drops in their kits instead of using priming sugar. Anyone have experience and/or an opinion on these?
Yes it is a gallon batch. Unfortunately I threw out the remaining yeast and the little envelope that it came in. I do recall that it measured out to 11.5 grams, so roughly 3.5 grams of yeast was used. I did pitch dry, so maybe getting it started first would help. I am jot experienced enough to...
