Fermented in glass carboy. One gallon batch. The recipe said to use two tablespoons of table sugar in two cups of boiling water for priming. They've been in bottles for more than three weeks. I didnt take OG or FG readings as I do not have a hydrometer yet. Anything else?

Two weeks in the bottle

Haven't taken OG AND FG readings as the instructions and kit didn't call for it. (I know - I need to invest in a hydrometer.) Once it went in the bottles the ambient temperature was in the high 60s/low 70s during the day. I used two tablespoons of table sugar added to a cup and a half of water.

Just opened the first bottle of my second ever batch and have found that there is only a all amount of carbonation. My first ever batch was exactly the same recipe (a hefeweizen) andi followed the recipe exactly. What gives?

My wife and I are planning our next couple brews I noticed that Northern Brewer includes fizz drops in their kits instead of using priming sugar. Anyone have experience and/or an opinion on these?

Yes it is a gallon batch. Unfortunately I threw out the remaining yeast and the little envelope that it came in. I do recall that it measured out to 11.5 grams, so roughly 3.5 grams of yeast was used. I did pitch dry, so maybe getting it started first would help. I am jot experienced enough to...

I finished my first batch ever on August 4. I am wondering how long it will last in the fridge before getting "funky." We will be having dinner guests done on Labor Day weekend and I wanted to share the brew with them.

Just cracked the first one open and ..... success! It is rather citrusy (think Sam Adams Porch Rocker or other shandy) so I think I'll let the rest shutout for a little while longer to see if that will tone down a bit. By all accounts though, a successful venture!

How convenient JonM. When my original kit arrived we found that the thermometer that was shipped with it was broken. Emailed the company and they sent an entire new kit. So I ended up with two of everything - including all the brew ingredients! Bonus!
