    Over dry hopping

Kind of what I was thinking. Its delicious. Oh well. I'm in a brewing competition next weekend put on by Sierra Nevada in Reno. Not sure how much I'm going to get finger for the haze. It's really cloudy. But, it's the best IPA I have ever made. We will see! Thanks! John

    Over dry hopping

Hello home brew friends! Just finished aging an IPA that I made that I dry hopped a lot. It was a 11.5 gallon batch that I dry hopped with 1.5 oz of Simcoe, 2 oz of Amarillo and 1.5 oz of cascade. The flavor us fantastic, however the beer is very cloudy. It reminds me of a wheat beer or belgian...

    Brewmagic Woes

I purchased a brewmagic v350ms about 7 months ago and have been brewing like crazy. Within the last two months, the system has developed an issue where the burners won't stay lit for more than a few seconds. If I turn the system on and off a bunch of times it will usually start working, but...

    Low Efficiency Continues (Lengthy Description)

Thanks for the help guys! I adjusted my equipment in beersmith and the numbers jive now. I'm going to design 11 gallon batches so that I have ten gallons for legging after transfer from the fermenter. John

    Low Efficiency Continues (Lengthy Description)

Thank you for the response. Just curious on your spreadsheet above. It says that the final volume is 11 gals. Is your design based upon 10 gals or 11? That's one of the things I still don't understand. When I'm done, I end up with around 11.5 gals to go into the fermenter but gravity is figured...

    Low Efficiency Continues (Lengthy Description)

Hello everyone, So I have been having issues with low efficiency. I posted about this a few days ago and received some great responses and direction as to how to approve my efficiency. It became evident that the amount of time I was sparging was way too fast. I totally agree, now that I know...

    Stinky beer

Thank you for the response. Im going to let this beer finish and see how it tastes when it's done. Hopefully it's not undrinkable nasty. I think you are probably right about the infection. That sucks. It's exactly as you described it. Smells like cottage cheese/sour milk. It doesn't taste like...

    Stinky beer

No, this is my first. Could that be what's creating the nasty smell? I'm also hoping the smoked flavor nellies out with time. It's potent.

    Stinky beer

What is lacto? I tasted the beer. It wasn't good, however every beer I have sampled between transferring to the fermentation vessel has not tasted good. This one is the worst though. Not sure. I'll have to wait it out and see. How can you tell?

    Beer smells funny. Infected?

After doing some research on the forum, it appears that having beer smell like sour milk is normal. I tasted the sample for my final gravity reading and it was terrible, but that is par for all my other beers as well. They were bland. This one tastes kind of like watered down soy sauce. Very...

    Stinky beer

Already posted this in the fermentation and yeast forum, however it's not getting a response so I figured I would try here. I recently finished fermenting a batch of scotch ale I designed in beersmith. This is the 4th batch of beer I have finished fermenting in the last month. As I was...

    Beer smells funny. Infected?

Hi HBT peeps, I recently finished fermenting a batch of scotch ale I designed in beersmith. This is the 4th batch of beer I have finished fermenting in the last month. As I was relieving the pressure from my fermentation vessel, I quickly noticed that the smell was not so pleasant. Kind of...

    Not hitting Original Gravity #'s

Ya, I'm fly sparging. The mash tub would overflow if I batch sparged. Thanks for the info. I wish I would gave asked after I screwed up the first batch.
