    Fingerlakes hops!

They're locust trees. We chose them because they were already on the farm and resistant to rot. It's what they used to use in the vineyard before pressure treated posts were invented.

    Fingerlakes hops!

Nine poles in the ground. This year I'm doing three rows of 16 per row. Cascade, centennial and nugget. These are on Seneca lake in ny so any homebrewers in the fingerlakes are will have first access to fresh hops this year if they want.

Is two row 40l a base malt?

Well I may have just ruined a batch.. I got about 21 lbs of it from a friend who owns a brewery thinking it was 2 row brewers malt.. We knew our mistake as soon as we mashed in and saw the color.. Ending gravity was only 1.051 so that explains it. Too bad because we had plans for a nice zythos ipa.

This is funny did i just ruin a batch?

We were supposed to be brewing a zythos ipa today and instead of 21 lbs of 2 row brewers malt it looks like we just mashed in with 21 lbs of 2 row 40l! I'm not familiar with this 2 row 40l will it still produce fermentable sugars? Or maybe we just created the best beer we will ever make. Lol

How did i get this color from two row?

The whole grain bill was only 11 lbs of two row and a couple ounces of cascade hops. Like I said it was my first all grain and I just wanted a starting point to see how my system works on a very basic recipe. It was pale as bud light a few months ago but now has turned amber in color and tastes...

What is cold crashing? And what it do?

I only cold crash if it's going in a keg and force carbonated. I feel like if I cold crash before bottling I won't have enough yeast to bottle condishion

    Hows this recipe look?

Thanks guys i got about a gallon and a half boiling now with a pre boil gravity of 1.056. So im hoping fg after boil of around 1070? It smells great and is just about black. Correction.. It is black. And very silky smooth tasting. I think the cascades are going to be wild with the midnight wheat...

    Hows this recipe look?

I'm brewing up my first one gallon stovetop all grain beer to use up some extra ingredients. What do you guys think of.. For one gallon. Is this even going Halfway decent? I'm in the middle of the mash now at 153 degrees 2# two row briess .5# victory .5# briess midnight wheat .5 oz cascade...

    Where did I go wrong?

I brewed this extract kit last week and got 1.064. Since it's an extract the there's only a couple things that could cause a low gravity reading. Either you added too much water or your hydrometer is inaccurate. I'd guess the later.

Upstate NY Brewer/ Hop Growing Question

I've got some willemette plants that are pretty strong on their 3rd year in the fingerlakes region of ny. Cascades and nuggets also do really well in this climate.
