I do 3 gallon BIAB batches and get right at 70% efficiency up to 1.065 OG. After that it falls off pretty fast. I want to do a imperial porter for the winter and my plan is basically to use my porter recipe and add 2#s of light DME with about 15 minutes left in the boil. My question is do I...
I have a bottle of Boulevard Saison Brett and I want to do a starter and pitch it into a saison. My question is about the timing. How long should account for the starter to get going? What is the best time to pitch the brett? My plan is to brew the saison next Saturday. I was thinking I would...
I usually mash for at least 75 to 90 minutes rather than 60 just so I can get as high efficiency as possible. My question is does a longer mash have any possible negative affect or is it basically once conversion is done it's done?
That sounds like a good idea which leads me to another question. I'm doing it BIAB so I don't have a sparge. Can you FWH just adding the hops as the wort comes up to a boil? I'm mashing now so nothing like waiting til the last possible minute to get the recipe down.
Thanks for the help. I'm still new at it so I need a little more clarification. Are you saying to skip the fwh and maybe go from the 30 minute boil schedule or use the EKG for the fwh and the Citra tto wars the end? Getting the hop schedule right is still the hardest thing for me to grasp and...
Thanks for the info. I felt pretty dumb when I opened it. I was sure I had busted it and it felt like it had expanded some too. It's been about 12 hours and I don't have any bubbles yet in the airlock but it look like stuff is going on in the beer so I think it'll be fine. Cheers Daniel!
Brewing an American Pale and I thought I had smacked the pack and popped the yeast but when I went to pitch the pack hadn't burst. It's only a 3 gallon batch so I feel like it'll be ok just wanted some confirmation from some more experienced brewers.
