Thanks! is there a name for this formula?

How to calculate ABV for a split batch?

Yep, sorry about the confusion. I can start with 5 or 6 gallons of wort at 1.090 (or something high) and split that into two fermenters. Then add enough water so that I finish with 5-ish gallons of beer in each fermenter with lower gravitys. I'm just not sure how to calculate that. Ideally I...

How to calculate ABV for a split batch?

I would like to brew a low ABV beer and split into two 5-ish gallon batches but I'm not sure how to create a recipe. I have a 10.5 gallon BIAB kettle, so I'm pretty sure I can't just brew it all and split it in half. I think I need to brew with less water in the kettle and top it off in the...

    Critique my Amber Ale recipe

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the comments. @Holden Caulfield I saw that article on harsh malts recently and forgot about it. Glad you shared it, it's super helpful. There's a part that warns not to use harsh malts for color and that's exactly what I was doing -- sitting in beersmith...

    Critique my Amber Ale recipe

I'm brewing an Amber ale in the next couple of days and I'm not sure how I feel about the Crystal 120 here. In the beginning I was just trying to keep things simple and use three malts or less, but now I'm not so sure. What would you do with this grain bill? On hand, I have C-20/40/60/120...

    Extract Holiday Ale Recipe Critique

My friend and I came up with the Holiday Ale recipe. We're looking for comments and concerns because we've never made one before. We don't really know what we're going for so we're looking for opinions. :ban: Extract: 6 lbs Light Dry Extract (8.0 SRM) Dry Extract 70.6 % 1 lbs Amber Dry...

Great Scott! I made a hard cider!

Thanks! I can't take too much credit because the farmer had several different apple ciders. It was him that suggested using the Golden Russet. I think it is probably very acidic, but I would rather say that it's tart (if there's even a difference). The upfront tartness or acidity rolls...

Great Scott! I made a hard cider!

5 gallons of Golden Russet apple cider (unpasteurized, from the farm) 4 lbs brown sugar Mangrove Jack's M02 Cider yeast (2 packs, dry) Added the cider to a 6 gallon bucket, then added 4 lb brown sugar. I half-ass stirred the mixture because I wasn't overly worried about it being homogenous...

Anyone else have really thirsty friends?

I am a thirsty friend. A friend of mine recently unleashed a batch of some fine ESB onto us for a board game night. We also brewed a zombie dust clone that night. I have his paypal info though so I will reimburse him for half the zombie dust and for the ESB batch that we decimated.
