    1st use of secondary

In response to chewse to using wood chips Although this is my first attempt at brewing a wee heavy, I've definitely drunk a few. I'm not sure if your familiar with the style, but it is strong, very malty and sweet. As I understand It lends itself well to smokey, peaty and wood flavors, it is...

    1st use of secondary

Anyhow what I've decided to do is bottle 2 gallons and put remaining 1 gallon in a gallon jug and condition there with some wood chips. Then I can compare Cheers

    1st use of secondary

I haven't progressed to kegging yet, I figured if I had a CO2 tank I could probably just purge the carboy with CO2. Thanks for the idea of putting in the secondary just before end of fermentation. Have you done this yourself?

    1st use of secondary

I was hoping you wouldn't say that lol I guess it's worth the investment of about $30. Still it's good to know I can condition it in the house. Thanks

    1st use of secondary

Hi I'm brewing my first strong ale, a wee heavy. I decided to do a small batch of just 3 gallons and was hoping to have first tastings at Christmas. I'm expecting to leave in the primary for about 3 to 4 weeks (or when done fermenting) then move to a secondary for about a month or 2, I'm...

Pail Kettle Tipper for batch sparging

Pail Kettle Tipper for batch sparging

Hi I was going to make another tipper to tip into that tipper ha nah I thought of just making a simple tipper that would fit my HLT I was just showing the link as an example, anyhow that may even fit some smaller pots. They make tipper for larger pots for soap making but they are incredibly...

Pail Kettle Tipper for batch sparging

Hi I was trying to think of a way of making my batch sparging easier, lifting a kettle of hot water is awkward and not to mention dangerous. I was wondering if anyone has used or built anything like this? https://materialflow.com/p/Pail-Tipper Or would it be better to invest in a pump...

    Temperature Controller Fluctuation

Hi Can anyone with experience of temp controllers advise me. I have a 5 cu ft black and decker chest freezer with an Auber TD100a dual temp controller. I have a 6.5 gallon brew bucket with water in it and a thermowell through the lid and the probe in that. I've been testing it out and I found...

    Temperature Controller Offsets

Thanks for the reply. Now I,m ready for brew day tomorrow! I did find it a little confusing that the cool and heat set points could be set differently but now it makes sense. I'm gonna try with the setting you suggested with out any fermenting beer in there and see how to plays along. Sent...

    Temperature Controller Offsets

Hi I wonder if someone could advise me on setting on my newly purchased dual temperature controller. This is the first time setting up any type of temp controller for me. I purchased the Auberins TD100A (in case anyone is using this exact model) and it states in the manual I change the...

Cool wort in hot a hot climate

wow A lot of useful replies, going from everyone has said. I will start off with an IC and experiment with that as best as I can. When I have some more cash consider the pump and/or pre-chiller. I'm glad you guys mentioned the mini chest freezer, I was expecting that that would be an essential...

Cool wort in hot a hot climate

Until recently I just did very small batches and used the ice bath method to cool my wort. I now plan on doing 5 gallon batches so figured it was time to invest in a better method to cool my wort. One of my problems is I live in Texas and during the summer the ground water stays pretty warm...
