    My first brewing-related injury

The only injury ive had was a burn. I was doing a partial mash in a bag. Had my wife poor 170 deg water thru the bag to sparge it while my dumb ass was holding the bag up over the pot. She poured it all over my hands. "it was a accident" lol

My Oktoberfest isnt a Oktoberfest. What is it?

I created a"Oktoberfest" recipe that really isnt a Oktoberfest. What type of brew is it? Its also higher ABV than a norm Oktoberfest so I was calling it Okturbofest. Here is a list of ingredients . I would really love some input on what style of beer this is. Also if anyone knows a link to what...

Yeast at bottling time after long lagering?

Good question. I dont know enough to have a opinion on lagering time. The only reason I planned on 6 months is because ive read everywhere that is nornal for oktoberfest type brews. I would like to know what exactly makes a oktoberfest a oktoberfest. I added 1 pound of rye to my recipe to add...

Yeast at bottling time after long lagering?

Thanks. I did that and didnt find the answer. Maybe I didnt spend enough time looking. You can make the point that EVERY question has been answered somewhere so if a question offends people then why do they take the time to respond "its been asked before"? Close down the question forums if...

Yeast at bottling time after long lagering?

I have a oktoberfest that I plan to lager for 6 months. This is my first lager. Should I add yeast when its time to bottle? Its 2 months into lagering and at 38 deg. at this time. Ive thought about bottling now and then finishing the lager but im not sure how that would effect the brew. Might be...

First lager. Airlock still active 2 weeks later

That makes sense. I need to get a fancy scope so i only need a drop. I will do a reading tonight to see where im at. Some reason I wasnt thinking about the yeast needing to be still active to do a proper rest.

First lager. Airlock still active 2 weeks later

I do have a hydrometer but I dont like to keep testing it. The lid comes off to test and then all the protective co2 is gone and risk of infection. Im patient so I usually wait a week after airlock activity stops and test when pitching to secondary. If no secondary is used then I wait 3 weeks...

First lager. Airlock still active 2 weeks later

Im sure im going to get alot of dont worry replies but Im very curious if this is normal or a sign of something wrong. This is my first lager. Its a 8.4 est ABV oktoberfest using Saflager s-23. I rehydrated yeast in wort cooled to 55 deg. for about 2 hours prior to pitching. I cooled wort to...

Lager yeast 40 vs 50 degs

I just brewed my first lager. Its a high gravity Oktoberfest (8.4) . I have done a lot of research and one thing that has me wondering is the difference in opinions on primary at 40-45 degs and 50-55 degs. I understand lagering AFTER primary. But this is confusing me. Anyone care to share some...
