Guide to set internal chest freezer thermostat to >32F; Eliminate external control

Would this work on refrigerators as well, to get them up to 65-68 degree range?

New brewery from the ground up

Jebediahscooter asked for "words of wisdom" in his original post. If he didn't want everyone's 2 cents, he wouldn't have posted on this forum. That's what it's for. However, I think it's funny sometimes when people ask for advice. I heard someone say recently that when people ask for...

New brewery from the ground up

My words of wisdom: You already have the kegs, then definitely go ahead and make your kettle and mashtun but just do the bare minimum so you can get started brewing NOW and really learn what works for you. Take one keg, put a valve on it, make that your kettle. Take the other keg, put a...

    Woo Hoo Brewfest is coming!

+1 on Holy Grail. It is awesome. I don't know what it's doing in Frisco ;) The food there is outstanding as well.

    Woo Hoo Brewfest is coming!

I'll be there. Looking forward to it. Seems like these beer festivals are popping up all over the place in TX. I'm hoping this is the beginning of TX beer renaissance.

Does my recipe have enough diastatic power to fully convert?

Awesome. Guess I'll RDWHAHB and just do a normal mash then. Thanks gentlemen!

Does my recipe have enough diastatic power to fully convert?

This recipe is the first time I'll be using more munich than pale malt, and I'm concerned I may have crafted a recipe that does not have enough diastatic power to fully convert. I'm trying to go for a lighter gravity bock/cream ale hybrid, sort of. See recipe below: 2 lbs. American 2-row 4.5...

    First infected batch

Hey Ooompa, I know this was almost two years ago, but I just had almost the exact same situation with a stout I brewed recently. I know what the culprit was, cacao nibs. I didn't heat them or soak in vodka to disinfect. I just tossed them in. Despite finding a pellice, mine tasted great...

    Looking for empty bottles

I've been telling all my friends/family that drink good beer to save their bottles for me. I've also been checking recycling bins around my neighborhood. No joke, I've probably scored 2 dozen free bottles I can use in the past few weeks by doing this. I check when I'm out walking my dogs. I...

easiest way to pull a sample from a 6.5 gal carboy?

1+ to the auto-siphon. If you don't have one you should get one. I also just make sure it's sanitized and dip it down into the carboy to retrieve a sample.

I am getting horrible efficiency and really feel like giving up. HELP!

enderdsus7, thanks so much for doing this experiment! It's hard to argue with your results. I know earlier in the thread I was expressing doubt that the crush at HBHQ was to blame, but I purchased my grains there last week for a brew this past Saturday, and I had the same results that you've...

Viability of yeast slurry harvested from fermenter

Blink - Thanks for the link. I'm glad I read that article. I decided to see what Jamil Zainasheff's Mr. Malty calculator said. Based on that, it looks like I need to pitch about 1.55-1.7 liters of yeast material. If I truly have about half a gallon, that should be close to 1.89 liters. That...

Viability of yeast slurry harvested from fermenter

Hell yeah. I'm glad to hear this worked for Bobby. I'm about to try this same method, only I have half a gallon of slurry, Wyeast 1968, that has been sort of washed, and it's only 5 weeks old. I tried washing it, and I was able to decant off extra water and beer, but the rest of the solids...

I am getting horrible efficiency and really feel like giving up. HELP!

I don't know guys. I'm a total All-Grain noob, and I just did my first AG batch three weeks ago with grains I bought from HBHQ, in Richardson. I used BrewPal on my iPhone to determine my pre-boil gravity, and I was about 5 points under. It said I should have had 1.061 and I came out with...
