    Anyone brewing Brut IPA?

Finally got around brewing this one last Saturday. I moved the 15 min addition to 5 min for 22,4 total calculated IBUs and did a step mash with 50 °C (122 °F), 60 °C (140 °F) and 64 °C (147 °F) steps. I added amylase enzyme (LHBS didn't have glucoamylase) at mash-in and when I transferred the...

    Anyone brewing Brut IPA?

Thanks for the feedback! I'll move the 15 minute addition to 5 minutes, that should drop the IBUs down to ~24.

[Version 2 Release] RaspberryPints - Digital Taplist Solution

I just installed RaspberryPints to run on my desktop (http://bernerbits.github.io/ras-pints-without-pi/) and added the first beer to the taplist. This is what I get when accessing localhost/RaspberryPints: Warning: mysql_fetch_array() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in...

    Slip dual vessel mashing

The numbers translate to roughly 26.5 lbs of malt and 19+19 quarts of water, so the total water-to-grain ratio is about 1.44 qt/lbs. For a double batch of 38 liters (~10 gallons) I need about 45 liter (~11.9 gallon) boil volume, so I would be sparging with about 19 liters (~5 gallons).

    Slip dual vessel mashing

I've been using a 2 vessel RIMS system for a while now. The MLT is a 30-liter kettle with false bottom and a PID-controlled 3 kW heating element and the BK is a 50-liter kettle also using a 3 kW element. It's great for 19 l batches of any strength, but double (38 l) batches are limited to about...

    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

Went with about 108.5 ppm Ca, 18 ppm Mg, 16.8 ppm Na, 48.6 ppm Cl and 97 ppm SO4. Added 3.5 ml 80 % lactid acid and hit 5.4 mash pH. Efficiency was surprisingly low (69 %) so I missed my target OG by 0.005, ended up with about 19 litres in fermenter with 1.050 OG.

    iSpindle - DIY Electronic Hydrometer

Wouldn't it be possible to use the temperature readings as an input for BrewPi or some other fermentation temperature control software?

    CraftBeerPi - Raspberry Pi Software

Is there a way to alternate between two heating elements with CBP so that the element in my HLT could only be on when the element in MLT is off and vice versa? I'm planning to use 3,5 kW elements in each of my kettles but I'm limited to one 230 V 16 A line so I can't have more than one of them...

    Post your infection

A few weeks back I was checking on some harvested slurry and found this. What could it be? Looked like some small noodles :D I dumped that jar but still have one jar harvested from the same batch. It doesn't look anything like this, but there's a very thin layer of something white on top of...

British Brown Ale Nut Brown AG

Just kegged this after 3,5 weeks in primary. FG was surprisignly high, 1.021 - only 63% AA. I guess my starter was too small... Well, I've been meaning to brew something a bit more full-bodied for winter. This took care of that :mug:

British Brown Ale Nut Brown AG

Ended up with about 20l of 1.059 wort instead of 19l of 1.054 that I calculated for. Currently it's bubbling away like crazy at about 21 c. I'm thinking about kegging half of the batch and aging 5l with vanilla beans and 5l with bourbon soaked oak chips...

British Brown Ale Nut Brown AG

I've got a batch of something like this boiling right now. Substituted equal amounts of TF amber and melanoid for the victory and chocolate L450 and pale chocolate for the 700 ebc chocolate. I'm also going to use willamette instead of fuggles and WLP-023 Burton Ale instead of notty. I'm still...

50/50 Wheat and Maris Otter w/ Mandarina Bavaria Hops

I brewed something like this last summer. The grain bill was about 45% pils, 45% wheat and 10% vienna for an OG of 1.052. I hopped with mandarina bavaria with 0,5 grams/litre at 20 mins, 1 g/l at 5 mins and 1 g/l dry hop for 7 days. I brewed no-chill so the bitterness was about 10 IBUs. 1 g/l...
