Getting ready to bottle a brown ale and was wondering how many people use the carbonation calculator? If you have used it how successful were you at achieving your desired carbonation level? The recipe I used calls for 5oz of priming sugar, which is pretty standard, but I'm thinking that might be a few to many bubbles for a brown ale. The calculator is saying I should use 2.75 oz. :mug:

I just uses that calc for a Brown ale and it came out with 4.40oz.

I have found that with my house temps I am normally under carbed so far with that calculator so I go on the high end.

Interesting,

I used 2 as desired level
Bottling
4.5 gallons (loss due to racking)
68 degrees
corn sugar

comes out to 2.75oz
hmmm what were your variables?

You can play around with it. If you enter volume as 2.5, gallons as 4 and temp as 65, you get 4.28oz. So he probably put in around 2.5 for the volume.

So if you want a mild carb level then 2.75oz should work fine.

I used that calculator when I did my hefe, I wanted high carb volume and ended up using like 8oz corn sugar, worked great.
