What are the advantages of using a starter? I've been mainly using WYEAST in my all grain brews and was curious . Thanks...

I tend to use starters to make sure the yeast is alive and viable before pitching and then once pitched, fermentation kicks off faster. There are more cells around and the batch tends to get done a little quicker. They are also necessary for bigger beers because there needs to be a lot more cells to handle all the sugar.
