I am making a IPA with a OG = 1.072 and the original plan was to use a 2 L starter with intermittent shaking. However I now have access to a stir plate, so I plugged this into the Mr. Malty pitching calculator and it gave me a 1.2 L volume. I have read that a 1 L starter is not recommended, and a 2 L starter will double the number of cells from a smack pack. So my question is this: Can I make a 2 L starter and use a stir plate without the risk of over-pitching my yeast?
