So I plan on brewing the samuel smiths nut brown clone tomorrow. It calls for either wyeast 1187, or wyeast 1084. My HBS doesnt carry wyeast, they only have white labs so i picked up white labs british ale wlf-005 (or is it wlp-005? my label is smudged) and am wondering if it is a suitable replacement for one of those. The description says it can be used to brew brown ales but im curious to see if anyone has used this strain before to brew a brown and if so how did it come out?

According to the yeast profiles on BYO.com (from Jan-Feb 2006 issue) the White Labs you bought (WLP005) has similar finishing characterstics (maltiness), but has a higher attenuation rate (amount of fermentable sugars it will turn into alcohol). I don't think you'll have a problem.
