COWICHE, Wash. (AP) - Fire officials say a wildfire in central Washington state has destroyed at least one home, several outbuildings and is threatening more homes.
The fire, about 10 miles west of Yakima, started Sunday afternoon.
Heavy winds were pushing the blaze toward an unknown number of homes.
The fire was burning on an estimated 3,000 acres, increasing to around 9,000 in a four hours sent a big plume of smoke over Yakima.
One fire engine was burned.
Three firefighters were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, mostly smoke inhalation.
Firefighters are going door to door evacuating residents.
The smoke can be seen all over the Yakima Valley. Crews from across the region are helping, but there is no prediction on when this might be contained.
