Why did Bob Hayes make it into the Hall of Fame? Now, I've got nothing against the guy personally, but I just never thought he was that good.
I was actually around when he played, and I remember that he was always referred to as "The World's Fastest Man," due to his having held the world record in the 100 yd dash.
That's the thing- every time his name came up they talked about his accomplishments as a sprinter, not as a football player.
To be fair, I haven't checked his stats, and of course due to the era he played in, I suspect that they would not be very impressive by current standards. And don't get me wrong at all here- I'm not suggesting he was not a good player. He was. I just don't think he was Hall of Fame good.
