Who needs a stir plate?

I had been considering getting a stir plate in order to agitate my mead. Then my inner MacGyver took over and I found a good solution.

I built one from an old 12v DC adapter that I picked up at a thrift shop, a PC fan that was collecting dust, the magnet out of a long dead hard drive. One suggestion, get a Pulse Width Modulator (I picked mine up on eBay for about $5), sometimes referred to as a "knob", a switch and some sort of box. If you can solder wire, it's a very easy build.

I would be very hesitant to have a glass carboy shaking like that. I've had one break with less force than that. Be very careful (don't do this).
