So I disassembled for the first time a keg a friend gave me. It has NO gas side dip tube and no o-ring! The crazy thing is that it was my first keg and I used it for 3 previous brews. I didn't know anything about kegs so I just sanitized and went with it. The first two brews in this keg had no leaks!! However, the last batch I had would not hold pressure for more than a day or two so now that I've learned more about kegs I decided to disassemble and find the problem. I think I've found it!

The good news is that I have a whole bag of dip tube O-rings. The bad news is that I don't have any extra dip tubes and was planning on having this keg filled and ready to serve in a couple of days for a fairly important event. I know there are places I can get them online but is there anyway I could find something like this at a hardware store? There are two LHBS in Knoxville but I doubt they would carry anything like this.

All the lhbs's in my area have parts.

The important question is...

What type of keg is it? Some kegs have ss dip tubes, and some have plastic tubes for the gas side. Bring the keg with you to the lhbs and test fit.

Also, try calling the lhbs. I realize it's sooo 1990's, but your cell phone does more than texting and allowing you to search for porn.

Oops! Did I just say that out loud while typing...

Depends on your keg. Older Firestone gas side dip tubes are not the same as a cornelius gas dip tube.

chicompany.net has just about anything keg related. It can be hard to find it on their site, but it's probably on there. You need to know the type of keg.

I'd pull the dip tube out of another keg and try to put it in this keg. If it fits, you need a SS corny dip tube. If it doesn't you probably need the plastic dip tube.

I have successfully cut down SS Corny dip tubes with a tubing cutter to use in my Firestone kegs.

Its a corny dip-tube. LHBS around here are very limited. Already called and no dice.

My other kegs are full of beer or I would. I was really hoping there would be something that would work at a hardware store, but it seems unlikely at this point. I have somebody coming in from out of town who is leaving on Friday and I really wanted them to try this particular beer. I guess i'm SOL unless somebody has an idea of how to jerry-rig one.

For a temp fix, try setting a new gas side gasket on top of the threaded corny post, then carefully thread the gas side post/poppet assembly down finger tight, then gently snug it with a wrench. It will probably work until you have to clean the keg again, and by that time you should have replacement gas dip tubes on hand.

I'm going to try this
