Hey brewers!
I'm going to attempt to make a 1.084 doppelbock. It'll be my second lager and I'm planning on using WY2206 to do it. So, I bought a pack, made a starter, stepped it up a few times and put it into a yeast calculator that takes step up's into account.

I found out that I'll need a whole crap ton more yeast so I bought a second pack of the same yeast and made a starter right away. However, the second pack of yeast isn't leaving a layer of white yeast on the bottom of the container, it's like a grey brown trub color. is that normal (my first yeast pack didn't do this)? shouldn't both packs produce yeasties that are the same color?
Should I even waste my time stepping up the second starter or just buy another pack and hope it comes out egg white like all other yeast?
Thanks,
Pig Pig
