Hi all,
Thinking about building an electric kettle a using a 10 gallon boil kettle with a tri clamp 120 volt immersion heater. If this works I would continue the idea on to an HLT.
Any one done this or have any thoughts?

If it works? You mean even after 100,000 homebrewers are running electric systems, you're not convinced yet? ;-)

The primary issue you're going to have is that of speed when running on 120v. If you're hoping to get 7 gallons to boil pretty quickly (and a rolling boil at that) you'll have better results with a 240 element or two 120v elements per kettle.

I have done this with 220 for distilling in the past. I don't know about the immersion heater, but with a good, even simple, controller this should work fine.
