I just top-cropped ~500 ml of 1469, West Yorkshire Ale, using this contraption. It's in a quart jar topped off with sterile water. Should I let it off gas at room temp for some time, or put it straight into the fridge? I won't be brewing with it for a week or two.
Exactly. It worked well. The only thing I'd do differently next time was to wait a bit longer to begin the harvest. The krausen at 36-42 hours was cleaner than when I took the yeast at about 30 hours.
I can't see where in the krausen you stuck that cane, but. In case you don't know this already.. You want to harvest what's in the middle of the krausen. The top layer is full of proteins and other stuff you don't want.
