Interesting that they didn't release the name of the party that ordered it. Obviously wouldn't have been Molson/Coors, as they are sophisticated enough to not infringe a PDO. I'm guessing Belgian customs is having a word with the buyer.
Makes me wonder how the contents were "recycled".
Belgian customs said the destruction of the cans was paid for by the Comité Champagne. According to their joint statement, it was carried out "with the utmost respect for environmental concerns by ensuring that the entire batch, both contents and container, was recycled in an environmentally responsible manner."

Or the Comite Champagne ordered it themselves so they could "intercept" it and crush it as a publicity stunt.
This will really help Champagne sales. I totally see why it was necessary.
All those people in Germany were going, "Man, look how cheap this canned genuine Champagne is!"
