Swapped Co2 mid-keg - psi level help

So my CO2 ran out mid-keg... I had it running around 10-12psi. I disconnected it, filled it up, reconnected it, and it instantly shot up to ~25psi. I tried to turn down the regulator and bleed off some pressure, but it wouldn't come down.. what am I doing wrong?

Do you normally keep your tank in the fridge and replaced it with a hot tank? The pressure may run high until the tank cools.

Nope... canister stays outside the kegerator...

Where you adjusting up the pressure as the tank was running out? Thats my last guess.

OK maybe I have one more. If you disconnect the gas at the keg, turn the reg all the way down, bleed the pressure off, can you reset the reg?
