My friend bought two burbon barrels from GLBC that stored their blackout stout. He would like to brew a beer close to blackout stout to put in these barrels. I have come up with a rough grain and hop bill for this based on this http://www.greatlakesbrewing.com/uploads/Beer/Profile Blackout Stout.pdf

20.25 lb Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain
89.01 %
1.00 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 80L (80.0 SRM) Grain 4.40 %
0.75 lb Black (Patent) Malt (500.0 SRM) Grain 3.30 %
0.75 lb Roasted Barley (300.0 SRM) Grain 3.30 %
1.00 oz Simcoe [13.00 %] (60 min) Hops
44.3 IBU
1.00 oz Northern Brewer [8.50 %] (10 min) Hops 5.8
IBU
have not decided on yeast
this is 73% effic. 6 gallons after boil 1.098 SG

Open to any suggestions

I'd expect a much lower efficiency than that. More like 65-68 and I'd have some DME on hand just in case you miss your mark. The grain bill itself looks pretty good although this stout is pretty dark so I'd probably shoot for closer to a calculated 50 srm. Maybe just bump the roasted grains to a lb each.

Same here and I hot what I stated just last week on a 1.100 beer. Needed a couple lbs of extract to get there.

Bumping up the roasted grains to 1lb each. Brewing it this week, What temp should this beer be mashed at? my first crack at an RIS.
