Stir bar for stir plate

Yesterday I made a stir plate for yeast starters. I don't have a stir bar yet but to test it out I used two of these magnets as a stir bar

They work great but I'm not sure the coating is ok to use for the real thing. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I want to know if using the magnets as a stir bar is okay. Will the nickel coating hurt the yeast? It would save me from having to buy one. They work great as a stir bar I just put three together and drop it in.
