Historically I've been lucky enough to get free Yeast from my local brew house. In an effort to reduce my laziness I finally wanted to kick things off with a decent starter as my last batch of witbier was ruined by trusting a weak smack pack. Out of 20 batches I guess one is bound to fail..
My Question:
I've got 1,000 ml bubbling away on my stir plate. I'm brewing one 5 gallon batch tomorrow and one next week. Is it possible to somehow use 2/3 of the current starter, put the other 1/3 in the fridge and then use that to make ANOTHER starter next week? In other words can I simply pitch the the remains and create an additional colony? Will this somehow reduce the strength of the strain?
