hey everyone! This is my first post, but i have learned quite a bit lurking here, so thank you all for that. I have done a few extract and partial mash brews, and will be moving to AG soon, sooo...

I have a sanke keg that I'm going to convert into a ____ . Im not sure. I was hoping for some advice as to whether I should use it as a mash tun or a brew kettle and why. I plan on eventually having a 3 keg system - HLT -> MLT -> BK, but untill then...

thanks in advance!

I use mine as a boil kettle. I use my smaller pots as my HLT, and a cooler as my MLT. It made sense in my setup, since I had no way to boil 6+ gallons without it.

Boil kettle. AKA "keggle"... strange hybrid type word. Use a cooler as a mash tun and double batch sparge. Cheapest, easiest, fastest method, and no down side that I know of.

I agree...seems like most people use them for a boil kettle unless you are building a stand with 2 or 3 of them. Holding mash temps in a sanke keg is more difficult than a cooler setup for a mash tun.
