"Bore" is the inside diameter of the through-hole from the tail to the faucet end of the shank. Definitely nothing to do with the threads...

Cheers!

Thanks, that rules 1/4" out then. So I'm guessing it is some sort of standard shank sizing - could it be 5/8" thread?

I'm from an Imperial background (UK) but live in a metric country (Aus) and often order from the US, and between mm, litres, cubic inches, BSP, NPT etc.. I often find brewing "does my head in", working between them all. :D

Pretty sure the standard shank threads in North America are 7/8" x 14. Not familiar with the QDs you're planning on using so I'd give the specs on those a good checking over to make they're going to fit...

Cheers!

Much bigger than 5/8", the OD of the threaded shank is usually ~7/8", and the threads are finer than NPT. The logistics of trying to connect a Guest style QD to the shank is more trouble than it's worth if you ask me. Typically the beverage line is attached to the shank using a tailpiece and tailpiece nut.

If you want to be able to switch or remove the line from the shank more easily, I'd suggest using MFL tailpieces instead of barbed tailpieces.

If you want to use Guest style QD's for the rest of the beverage side, that's your choice, but I don't see any advantage to this at all.

The fitting I was thinking of is one of these
http://craftbrewer.com.au/shop/details.asp?PID=744

and I could use one on the back of your linked MFL Tailpiece.
But on reflection, I'll just stick with barbs/clamps on the back of the taps then, too much hassle for not enough return.

I do use the Guest QD's on my Ball Lock connects already, that was my thinking in just keeping everything plug and play.

Thanks for the answers.

The fitting you linked is for the MFL (threaded) Quick Disconnects which have 1/4 threads: http://craftbrewer.com.au/shop/details.asp?PID=730

The shanks that CB have are 5/8 thread and fit these JG fittings: http://craftbrewer.com.au/shop/details.asp?PID=853
and make everything nicely plug-n-play.

My SS shanks arrived today, so I thought I'd update this thread in-case anyone else is as confused as me.

The American supplier said they are just the standard shanks sold in the US that are 7/8”.
However, they fit the "5/16 x 5/8 Female Adaptor BSP" JohnGuest 'speed fit' fittings (part number PI451015FS) without problem.

How or why the 7/8" shank size fits the 5/8" JG Adaptor I don't know, except to say that it fits fine:

I am guessing it is a 7/8" UNF thread on the external of the shank, makes sense as this is more of a "bolting" part (because it has a nut that screws onto it) than a "pipe" part.
7/8 UNF = 22.225 mm major dia. / 14 TPI / 60 degree angle
5/8 BSP = 22.911 mm major dia. / 14 TPI / 55 degree angle
