What knid of metal is a sanke keg made out of? i ask my friend if he could weld on a ball valve but he said that he can't weld aluminum. are all sanke kegs aluminum? i looked for any markings but i did not see any.

Aluminum kegs have been out of production for awhile. Most kegs now are stainless steel.

the keg is a year or two old.( it was sitting empty in the back of the gurage) don't know if that is close to the time they were used

Well if a magnet stick to it it is most definitely steel. If not, then it could be aluminum, or a different grade of SS..

i just tried a hard drive magnet if just barly stuck. this magnet damn near pinches your finger if you try and put it on the fridge but it stuck no the side of the keg. i bumped the keg and it fell off. is SS less magnetic then just plain old steel?

thanks for all of your help
