Run or throw out???

I was cooking my first batch of mash and instead of taking a sample to test with iodine, like a rookie I put a drop into the entire 5 gallons. Is the mash still safe to run or should I throw it out?

I do not think a drop of iodine will kill you or make you sick

Yeah, iodine can be added to stream/lake water to make it safe to drink, at about 10 drops per quart. I would just pretend it never happened!

I have used iodine to make water safe to drink before. You have nothing to worry about.

Did the drop show that your conversion was complete?

after the boil more then likely it will be gone
