Right I want to brew a robust porter for the first time and have come up with this recipe. I'm not sure about using rye malt, any experience?

Ingredients:
------------
Amt Name Type # %/IBU
4.71 kg Pale Malt (2 Row) UK (5.9 EBC) 90.1 %
0.26 kg Black (Patent) Malt (985.0 EBC) 4.9 %
0.13 kg Chocolate Malt (886.5 EBC) 2.5 %
0.13 kg Crystal Rye Malt 2.5 %
80.00 g Fuggles [4.50 %] - Boil 60.0 min
1.0 pkg Nottingham (Danstar #-) Yeast

Mash at 66c (151f) for 75 mins.

I just recently made a rye imperial stout that came out pretty well. My base grains were ~60% 2 row and ~25% rye malt.

I don't have any experience using crystal rye malt so I can't say if your recipe will get you what you are after or not. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

The crystal rye isn't a base grain- it's just like regular crystal malt in that it provides sweetness and color and flavor. I doubt you'd get any "rye" flavor from it at all.
