Fairly new at all grain brewing, but would like to brew a Pumpkin Ale this weekend. I have been reading through the pumpkin ale recipes here on the site and one thing I have noticed is that some recipes call for the pumpkin to be added to the mash and others to the boil. Is one better than the other? or is it just a matter of preference?::confused:

I do it in the mash, leave it chunky in 1 inch cubes. i roast it in the oven for an hr. with pumpkin pie spice

I'm brewing a pumpkin (dogfish head clone) this weekend and will throw it in the mash. I think if you do it in the boil you'll have a good amount of trub and beer loss.
