Long story short: For a plumbed home seltzer system, I'm planning on repurposing a minifridge to cool a 3 gallon corny keg by wrapping the freezer plate around the keg and insualting the whole thing. That should render a much smaller footprint and let me create a horizontal refrigerated "coffin" for the corny.
I know the drill about being very careful in extracting, bending, etc. the fridge components. Assuming I pull that off, I figured I'd use a metal band to keep the freezer plate tightly around the corny. Then I'd wrap the hell of out of it.
(1) Any reasons this won't work or will be unsafe? Will I be able to get the contents to 34 degrees?
(2) What's the best material for wrapping the keg?
