One gallon batch

I am about to brew my first all Grain batch. It is a one gallon recipe. I see one gallon carboys for sale. Does the one gallon carboy allow enough headspace for primary fermentation?

A one gallon jug is best used as a secondary fermenter (if you choose to utilize a two step fermentation). They are a bit too small for primary unless you use a blow off tube. Something larger will serve you much better as a primary. I like the two gallon buckets or the small version of the big mouth bubbler.

I do 1 gallon batches using a glass carboy. Just got a second one so I can do two at a time. Just use a blow off tube and you will be fine. I personally like the idea of glass (hard to scratch, less bacteria), and I do not want to pay $20 or more for one that is bigger than I need. Plus if you are doing 1 gallon, you don't want too much headspace.
