I've brewed about 10 extract batches... this is my first go at a partial mash. Also my first time using BeerSmith.

Why do I feel like something is wrong here? In terms of this being a partial boil... ending up with 3.13 gallons post boil. Then adding water to the fermenter to arrive at 5 gallons. Estimated post boil gravity is 1.068.

So when I top off the carboy to 5 gallons is that going to dillute the gravity? Or has that already been accounted for based on batch size?

I guess I should have chose to do my first partial mash OR first recipe using BeerSmith.. but not both at the same time.

The post boil should be including the top up water in the fermenter... Sanitze a beer theif(turkey baster) and pull a sample from the fermenter and you should be really close due to the use of extracts... Efficiency(being higher or lower than predicted) is something you will get into when you get to all grain.
