nutmeg

hello fellow brewers,

im brewing a holiday cheer beer today and i have a question. im thinking about adding some nutmeg and im wondering if anyone has ever used it and how much you used if you have. The recipe already has ginger root, cinnamon, orange peels, and honey. i figured nutmeg wouldnt hurt.

Nutmeg is frequently used in "winter warmer" type spiced beers, and is a component of "pumpkin pie spice" which is frequently used in pumpkin ales. It's pretty powerful, though, so I'd go light with it if you decide to use it.

by light do you mean like a teaspoon or less then that?

Use half to a third of the amount of cinnamon.

If you can find the whole nut, nutmeg, and fresh grate it. the flavor is much nicer.
