Well, the package got put in a freezer with some hops... I found it mostly--if not totally frozen. Then I put in a fridge and forgot about it.

Found it last week. Popped the smack pack. It took several days--but it swelled...

Anyone worth trying to use? Or is it just decaying in the package?

From Wyeast website:

“In a refrigerator as cold as possible without freezing. 34°F is ideal. Most refrigerators run around 40°F.”

it is not recommended to freeze your yeast

That being said, I have a friend that did an experiment where he froze a strain of yeast and handled the other one properly. The frozen yeast produced a good beer, although different than if the yeast was not frozen.

As for the expiration date, if you do use it a starter is mandatory for expired yeast.
