I'm not new to brewing but this felt like a new to brewing question.

I got a new burner - a Bayou Classic SP-10, apparently rated at 185000 BTU.

To test it out I went out on my porch when it was like 45°F out and heated 6.5G of 55°F water to boiling. It took 23 minutes.

That seemed like a bit of a long time so my question is whether it is indeed long or is it about right for the temperature of the starting water and the temp outside?

That sounds OK to me, not great. Did you have the air adjusted properly? I had one of those and an SQ-14 before going electric. Another constant irritation for me was wind. If there was more than a breeze it seemed like my heating times increased dramatically.

Edit: Did you have your propane stored inside or outside? The temp of the propane tank will greatly effect it's ability to vaporize gas, and at lower temperatures that burner will eat more gas than the tank can push out, although 45 isn't that low.

Here's some info from Blichmann

The Bayou classic listed must be the 14 since the sp-10 is 180 kbtu
