I would like to switch from extract to BIAB. I would like to brew this hefeweizen recipe. I was curious to find out how much water I will need to start with. I will be using a 44 quart fryer pot with basket to hold the bag. If anyone can educate me on how to calculate how much water to start with, I would greatly appreciate it.

Go to BIABrewer.info and download their calculator. In addition to calculating the amount of water you'll need (mash, grain absorption, boil off and sparge all go in at once) the calculator also performs many other useful functions for your brew day.

Good luck!

I used the calculator that itchison referred to. One thing that I found is to make sure you know how much you boil off during your boil. I under estimated mine a little and came up a little short on wort at the end of the boil.

Good luck on your brewing.
