Honestly I have nothing for temp control my first batch was a me beer American light I just out the fermenting vessel inside one of the cabinets on the kitchen and this batch was a 5 gallon porter kit from true brew I fermented in a bucket and I just out put that away in my closet in my room since it's the only place I had space and was cool enough my room is always pretty cold the beer itself taste pretty darn good with the only exception of what I assume is that twang flavor people speak of
Is the "twang" flavor like a rocket fuel or rubbing alcohol flavor/smell? I'm in agreement that it sounds like fusels may be to blame. Knowing more about what you are tasting and smelling could help pinpoint that.
