Tasting Notes
Intense hop flavor and aroma, heavy pine and tropical fruit.
Brewed for a good friend for his wedding reception but we decided such a huge brew was probably not going to be enjoyed or appreciated by regular beer drinkers. He wanted a big beer for less than $100 and this is what I came up with.

13 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 1 67.1 %
2 lbs GoldPils Vienna (3.5 SRM) Grain 2 10.3 %
2 lbs Munich Malt (9.0 SRM) Grain 3 10.3 %
1 lbs Caramel Wheat Malt (46.0 SRM) Grain 4 5.2 %
6.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 20L (20.0 SRM) Grain 5 1.9 %
2.00 oz Summit [15.00 %] - First Wort 90.0 min Hop 6 80.4 IBUs
1 lbs Sugar, Table (Sucrose) (1.0 SRM) Sugar 7 5.2 %
2.00 oz Summit [15.00 %] - Boil 5.0 min Hop 8 13.6 IBUs
1.00 oz Citra [14.10 %] - Boil 5.0 min Hop 9 6.4 IBUs
1.00 oz Galaxy [14.80 %] - Boil 5.0 min Hop 10 6.7 IBUs
1.00 oz Kohatu [8.10 %] - Boil 5.0 min Hop 11 3.7 IBUs
1.00 oz Simcoe [13.30 %] - Boil 5.0 min Hop 12 6.0 IBUs
1.00 oz Citra [14.10 %] - Boil 1.0 min Hop 13 1.4 IBUs
1.00 oz Galaxy [14.80 %] - Boil 1.0 min Hop 14 1.5 IBUs
1.00 oz Kohatu [8.10 %] - Boil 1.0 min Hop 15 0.8 IBUs
1.00 oz Simcoe [13.30 %] - Boil 1.0 min Hop 16 1.3 IBUs
1.00 oz Citra [12.00 %] - Boil 0.0 min Hop 17 0.0 IBUs
1.00 oz Galaxy [14.00 %] - Boil 0.0 min Hop 18 0.0 IBUs
1.00 oz Kohatu [8.10 %] - Boil 0.0 min Hop 19 0.0 IBUs
1.00 oz Simcoe [13.00 %] - Boil 0.0 min Hop 20 0.0 IBUs
2.5 pkg Safale American (DCL/Fermentis #US-05) Yeast 21 -
1.00 oz Citra [12.00 %] - Dry Hop 7.0 Days Hop 22 0.0 IBUs
1.00 oz Galaxy [14.00 %] - Dry Hop 7.0 Days Hop 23 0.0 IBUs

1.00 oz Simcoe [13.00 %] - Dry Hop 7.0 Days Hop 25 0.0 IBUs

Kegged to 2.3 vols

Like I said, this beer is huge. Massive hop flavor and aroma. Little to no warmth in the back end, malt balance is solid and balances the hops very well. If you've got $80 laying around, I'd definitely brew this up. Going to enter this one in a competition in March, I'm sure it will get good ratings.

Citra, Galaxy, Simcoe and Summit are a nice combination. I've never tried Kohatu. That is a big hop bomb!

Kohatu IMO is like simcoe and galaxy mixed. A nice blend of tropical fruit and pine. Not too heavy on either though. LOL yeah its a hop bomb alright! I love it though, very tasty. He told me what he likes and what he wanted to spend and I had to come through. :D

Oh man, are there ever. I'm brewing this one again this week during my vacation. I'm going to up the 2 row by 1# and drop the Munich by 1# but overall it was a massive hit. Super citrus/tropical nose and flavor with a great malt background with a touch of toast at the end. The Kohatu and simcoe added a great pine balance to the tropical flavors. I'm really proud of this one.
