I was wondering if anyone has every used two types of lme in one recipe like half dark and half pale or something like that will this work or be a good idea any thoughts?

I just brewed a Surly Furious clone that had a couple different LMEs...it's pretty damn good! Use whatever you need to get the results you're looking for.

I have used extra pale LME and added munich LME or wheat LME with good results. I don't use Amber or Dark LME, instead getting the color and character from specialty grains.

If you're doing extract only brewing you can definitely use different extracts to get different results. As Eric mentioned, there are more than just light and dark you can work with as well.
