Took the og sample and it looks to be in the srm range of 12-13 and supposed to be around 5... will this change that much through fermentation ? Thanks

A buddy designed cause he wanted to make a kolsch for his 1st recipe. 7lb pilsner lme and 4 oz Munich 10L... beersmith gives 1.047 which was right on and 4.2 srm which is way off, pre fermentation at least

it will lighten up with time. Beer always seems darker in the fermenter than it comes out to be, and that is even more true for unfermented wort in the fermenter. The beer will clear up, which will make it lighter.

Was going to say that you'll also be serving it in smaller glasses (compared to the big fermenter) but you're talking about the hydrometer sample.

Maybe the LME was a little old?

If you aren't entering it in a contest then it really doesn't matter anyway.

LME is pretty dark, and boiling it makes it even darker, so if you boiled the LME for the full 60 minutes, it may be pretty dark colored in the end as compared to the same recipe made with pilsner malt grain (which would be very light).
